Erika Brown from The Cricket updates Heather Atwood and Kory Curcuru on the recent decision made by Manchester’s Selectboard to join a regional 911 dispatch service. Brown says the Selectboard made the decision after 56% of town meeting voters declined to join. Regional dispatch centers are a low cost alternative to local dispatches and are favored by the state for emergency management benefits. 
 
Erika also talks about Peter Phippen’s recent piece on new invasive species in the Great Marsh and  a local veterarian’s trip to Ecuador.

Celebrating St. Peter reminded Ethan how important fishing is to the community of Gloucester. On the heels of Fiesta a Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade caused protests at the Gloucester Rotary. Forman spoke with young organizers and two women who protested for the same rights fifty years ago.

Mayor of Gloucester Greg Verga joins Heather Atwood and Kory Curcuru to talk about supply chain issues affecting pay-as-you-go trash bag sales in the city. Throw bags are unavailable, so the city is allowing people to put up to two 36 gallon bags of trash on the curb free of cost.  Despite concerns about how the city would handle the  increased trash generated by St. Peter’s Fiesta the festival was a success. 
The week before Fiesta saw multiple tragedies. Mayor Verga comments on the drowning in the Lanesville quarries and a fire at Beacon Marine. Lastly Kory asks Mayor Verga about the upcoming talks to spend Covid-19 relief funds and the 4th of July.

Ethan Forman from the Gloucester Daily Times reports LIVE from outside the Beacon Marine which caught fire at 7:00AM this morning. Ethan tells Heather Atwood on Cape Ann Today no one was injured in the fire. Fifteen residents have been displaced and are currently being assisted by the Red Cross.
